Yeah, it’s pretty expensive! But if you think about it in terms of years…getting the surgery and losing the weight will add at least another 10 years to my life. So $2500 a year to live…well, that seems like a bargain to me!

I know a lot of people who have gotten this procedure done, and it worked amazingly for them. However, they learned to eat right and exercise. If you don't have the motivation now, you need to get it, and keep it. Before then, the procedure would be useless. Just because you saw some girl on Oprah doesn't mean that you will automatically be a success story as well. That is just called marketing; showing only certain stories about products, it's done on purpose to make people think that it will work for everyone. Putting that aside, you are 14 years old! That is too young to do something like this. I would suggest going to see a nutritionist first, then going from there.

    Good Luck!

i am too young to have ever been in your situation (i am 16) but i think that your sister-in-law is an ignorant fool! you were right to react in this way, and i give you kudos for standing strong! all that matters is your childrens' happiness and safety.

you have put the restraining order in place now try to build bridges. I agree that your sil was out of order and to do that to an innocent child is unforgivable but at the same time i think you can make the opening of if you learn how to behave then maybe the order can be retracted. then the ball is completely in her court, and if she loves your family then she can turn things around but will only try if there is an opening to do so. this will also help your husband and mil realize that this is not what you wanted and that there is a chance in the future to have a complete family circle if she comes around to a positive way of thinking. good luck and no you are not wrong just protective.

I also gained weight on an antidepressant and my best recommendation for you would be The Zone. You don't need to bother with all their prepackaged food or even buy the book if you don't want to (although it does have some handy recipes) – a quick Google search will tell you just about all you need to know to get started.

The basic idea of The Zone is that you eat the right proportion of carbs to fat to protein to support a healthy hormone balance which in turn fine-tunes your metabolism to optimal performance. Since you are pumping chemicals into your body, those hormones are likely out of whack and need all the support they can get. Best of all, you can still have carbs (just the right kinds) and you aren't starving! ๐Ÿ™‚ Good luck.

You have it backwards. People who have diabetes (type 2) and high blood pressure (hypertension is just another name for high blood pressure) often improve when they lose weight. If weight loss alone is not enough to to control the disease, then additional measures (such as medication) are used.

If you have type 2 diabetes, usually the first step is to lose weight. If that doesn't work, then medications are used. (Sometimes cases are bad enough that medications are immediately used). The weight loss does not cause diabetes. The failure to control diabetes through weight loss leads the doctor to try the next step, medication.

There is not biological tendancy for Mexicans to be heavier. There are many cultural reasons, mostly having to do with the foods that are commonly eaten in Mexican households, as well as a standard of beauty that includes (and often prefers) heavier women.
